Tomorrowland Is Here by Walton R. Collins is about the computers of the future. The author compares it with Star Trek. This short story, you would say, is about how computers are re-invented and updated. You could also see how they function. I would like these computers. They look good.

Robots Among Us is about a person in the future. This story also explains about our complex and advanced technology of the future. We're talking about robots. They would perform things that we would be too lazy to do. They could perform them alone. No help from humans (except the programming) Anyways, they could also perform surgeries and jobs that we cannot even imagine to do. It compares robots to R2D2 AND C3PO. The story says that their robots would be advanced like these robots.

Send In The Clones is about cloning people. These clones could be used for jobs that don't need to pay workers. They clone one worker and they could have millions of them. It says that it could reduce the sexual reproduction rate. Most people wouldn't want to clone themselves because it is unholy. So far they have cloned farm animals, such as sheep, pigs, and dogs. Scientists are working on this everyday. Trying to make it happen.

More than Human... Or Less is about cyberspace. It's mostly about hackers hacking computers. They would hack by having sockets implanted into their brains and virtually go into the computer. Gibson thinks it's "unthinkable complexity." I could compare this to The Matrix.

Who Goes There? is about the stuff we usually use today make it go further on into the future. By that, I mean that the stuff that we use have improved or are improvements of our civilization. For example, credit cards have made our society a cashless society. All we have are plastic cards filled up of "credit and cash".

The TV Family explained how Sci-Fi was important to people watching television and Ray Bradbury. It shows how people loved Sci-Fi in the '50's. It was sort of a Sci-Fi Era.

Beam Me Up Scotty This is about getting from one place to another. What it would do, is break all your particles and send it to another place. Kind of like a fax machine. This is very advanced science and scientists probably have nowhere to start. It needs the speed of time, which is nearly unbreakable.

We Come In Peace is the controversial thing that has been going ever since mankind was civilized. Aliens. People think that aliens are good guys, others think they're not. Hundreds of people have spotted alien space crafts and still aren't sure. They talk about if either aliens are good guys or bad guys.

The Beast Reveiw

In The Beast by Walter Dean Myers, a teenager from Harlem goes to a rich, white school named Wallingford Academy. He leaves his hometown to learn in a really good school. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Gabi, was left alone. When his winter vacation came, he went back to Harlem to visit everybody. He noticed everything turned different. Including Gabi. She was in trouble. Her mother was very sick and she had a blind grandfather on her hands. Also, Rafael, her brother, was thought to be gangbanging. Somehow Spoon found that Gabi was on drugs. When her mother died, Gabi had a nervous breakdown. She's been missing for three days. With the help on Monica, another drug addict, they found Gabi in a dope house. He tried to help her and brought her to her house.

Walter Dean Myers makes the story end happily. Gabi quit drugs, Spoon graduated Wallingford, Gabi took a job, but Rafe was also thought to be taking drugs.

Literature Circle Book Blog (Makeup)

So far I'm Reading Gone With The Wind. It Is an extraordinary book. It is filled with romance, hate, war and many other things. I would recommend this book to anyone who would be looking for a great book to read.

I'm up to where Rhett Butler left Scarlett With Melanie, who is extremely sick, her own infant, Melanie's child, and her slave, Prissy. It is pretty horrible how Scarlett treats Prissy. She pinches her and yells at her for no reason and tries to make a reason out of it. It is really mean. I know that in the 1800's whites are superior to blacks and they own blacks, but Scarlett would never do that. She's always been nice, and selfish, jealous and other bad things. I guess that she's taking her feelings that she's had the past years on Prissy.

Anyway Scarlett has wasted all of her energy trying to go back to Tara. The trip was about 15 miles away from where Rhett left her. Melanie has been a big responsibility for her and her child. The newly borned baby was dying of hunger and thirst. Luckily, Prissy's Mother, Dilcey, fed the baby milk. I feel a very good and strong connection between Pork's family and the O'hara Family. They've known each other for more than 20 years. They are like family. It sort of warms my heart knowing that Pork and his family are slaves to the O'haras but they treat themselves nicely.

So this is where I'm Up to. I can't wait to find what will happen next!

Big Joe's Funeral by Walter Dean Myers

The Story, Big Joe's Funeral, by Walter Dean Myers is full of irony. You see, Big Joe, is a loved person around 145th street. He helps a lot of people out and lends money to people who need it. He has been talking about his funeral for a time and he died. He was wearing a nice suit and almost everyone cried. He faked his funeral. He decided it was enough lending people money and wanted to end his insurance. At the end, he opened the coffin and came out. He received all the money and tricked everybody.

I think that the main theme in this story is RESPECT. I think it is respect because a lot of people lent money from him and he doesn't know who his friends are from that. So he planned his fake funeral and from the speeches, he found who his friends were. He wanted to be respected because he respects everybody else, and he wants them to return the favor when he's dead.

In my opinion, I think that the fake funeral/party was foolish. Because he spent a lot of money on it- maybe more money than he lent to other people! I wouldn't do that because its just a waste of money and what if you really-accidentally- get buried. It would be hard to hear a person 6 feet underneath the ground. Wouldn't you agree.

I didn't really like the story. I mean, it was just there, not very interesting. Although it has a good theme, it sucked.

Monster Reveiw

Okay, from this point, I really enjoy this book. At first I thought it was boring. It was nothing special, because they didn't really explain everything well in the beginning. But as I started to read, I LOVED IT. It was really interesting. I felt really bad for him because he was accused of being involved in a robbery. Although it was a big fight through the justice system, it ended with a happy ending.
The book, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers is about a young black 14 year old, who was accused of being a lookout in a robbery in a grocery store. The owner of the store was accidentally shot by another black man. He was sent to court because a woman accused him of it, she called him MONSTER. Steve Harmon was sent to jail and writes down what he hears, thinks, and says in a notebook. He hopes to turn it into a movie.
The holdup was held in December when 3 black men, King, Richard "Bobo" Evans, and of course, Steve Harmon. They all went to court and went through a long battle. He writes in his notebook of what happens in jail, what he thinks is going to happen, and what happens in court. After the long battle through the justice system, Steve Harmon wins, with his lawyer, O'Brien. The other two were sent to jail because they were really involved in the holdup. Steve was just in the store looking around for stuff, there was nothing against that.

I would personally recommend this book to all my friends who would want a really interesting and serious story.It would teach them a life story and would kill the time. I really love this book. I would also give it 4/5 stars.

The Streaker by Walter Dean Myers

In The Streak, a young boy named Jamie Farrell. This a boy had bad luck. First, Jamie lost his baskeball game and later dropped his soda. Glass spilled everywhere!! Later after that, he dropped a slide at biology and it broke. His teacher was mad at him. After that, he accidentally threw a milk carton at the school's scariest person. Jamie freaked and ran away. He couldn't pay for his food and hit his ankle.It was a really bad time for him. Then his friend, told him that he could be a streaker. That is when the tables turn and you have good luck. And it worked!! He had 6 or 7 good luck chances. With those chances, he fixed everything he messed up, and was asked out by his crush, Cecilia, a very hot girl from DR.

I really liked the story. I liked it because it was pretty funny. It was about a normal teenager dealing with ordinary average problems. He had some bad luck but it sooner came back around. I was happy when everything came back to its place. I thought if he didn't do some of those things it wouldn't have fallen back to its place. Like for example, if Jamie didn't call Cecilia's mother, she wouldn't even thought about asking her out!!!!!

The Lesson of this story is, "What Comes Around, Goes Around." I think that this quote best fits this story. That's what a streaker is!! Froggie said that a streaker is when a person has bad luck and then good luck. This quote explains that everything happens for a reason.

The Misfits Chapters 14-21 (Make Up for the Giver)

This Book has been getting very interesting. It is very funny and I couldn't stop reading the book. I've read this for an hour and am planning to finish it.

Anyway, Bobby makes up a new idea/party for the election. He calls is "The No-Name Party." This party would ban all the name-calling. A kid, named Darryl, was called a Dweeb and was made fun of. Everyone started making fun of him, including Kevin. That's how Bobby was inspired and created this new party.

I personally think that name calling isn't good, especially when you're not kidding. It wouldn't be cruel when you say it to your friends, such as when they called themselves names in Joe's house. It was funny.

After that, they created all of these posters and posted then when they made up excuses to go to the bathroom and such. When the bell rang, everyone went out and saw all these posters. Some laughed but the majority made connections with them, because they were probably called these names.

The gang of 5 are starting to inspire me. I can't stop thinking if it would happen in real life because I haven't been in this position nor seen a person in that situation either.

There has been some romance between Addie and Collin. They have started to talk a lot and Collin admires her ideas and bravery. She asked Skeezer to put some notes in his locker so Collin could read them. One of them said, "Meet me at the school flagpole." She sort of waited. When she saw Collin at the flagpole, she started walking with him and had a nice conversation.

Mr. Kellerman's mother died. He's been grumpy for a very long time. At the end of one day, they walked to their houses together. He opened up, his whole life story. It seems that Kellerman actually was a kid before. He had an overprotective mother and was bullied and called names in high school. Bobby really felt bad for him so he listened and responded to him.

It is really nice that Bobby can relate to Kellerman and talked about something that is serious- their loved ones dying. I felt that now Kellerman was alone. He had no family, his wife left him... What is he going to do next? How is he going to survive, he has no friends- other than Bobby. I really feel bad for Kellerman. I hope he finds love again.

The Misfits Chapters 7-12

In this part of the book, the story got very interesting. Addie wants to start another party- other than the Democrats & the Republicans. She wanted to start a party called the "Freedom Party." It was for minorities who could not speak for themselves. Addie and "her gang of 5" tried to get the popular kids on their sides, including a colored funny man, DuShawn Carter. 2 girls and himself are the only colored people in the seventh grade. Apparently Addie and Bobby went up to him and persuaded him into running for president on the Freedom Party. He said okay. But one of his friends thought that Addie chose him just because he is black and use him as a symbol. She was ready to fight.

I really love what DuShawn's friend did. She stood up for her color, she stood up for what she has believed in. I really love that because that is what I call an American. She stood up for everything she believes in.She takes her pride.On the other hand I also Addie, she stands up for what she believes in, but she also takes note of everything, I do not like people who do that.

Anyway, Addie fortunately received permission to create another party, she has done her part of the job whilst Bobby had to ask Colin, another popular kid- yet normal to join the Freedom Party. Unfortunately, he believes in Democrats.

I really love this book. Although its funny, it talks about the real normal lives of minorities, also known as, nerds or dweebs. It also shows how they survive from the popular kids and the cool kids. I feel bad for them because (Not saying that I'm popular or whatever) they do not have anything to survive on but just on themselves. They are the bottom part of the triangle. They support the higher levels of social class, but they are not appreciated. That is why I feel bad for them. I love this book!!

The Misfits by James Howe

sThis book is a really funny novel. It has a very funny sense of humor. This book shows the life of "nerd" or "weirdos." It shows how they survive through the terrible life of being in middle school. Bobby, Addie, Skeezie and Jodan are best friends.

This book starts out when Bobby, the main character, works in an untouched clothing department. He is only twelve years old and helps his father out with their financial problems. He goes to school and finds all his friends. Bobby speaks of all the different names people call him, including "Fluff."

On one day, in math class, the whole class had to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Addie refused because she doesn't want to be controlled. and she thinks that the dictionary is sexist. I really enjoyed that part because when the teacher asked her why she wasn't standing up, she explained why and asked the whole class what does pledge mean. Some kid said, "Furniture Polish!!!!" It was very funny!!
I would've never thought of that! Would you?!?!

Another part that I've enjoyed is when the children go to their lockers, and find a word on one of their lockers. It was misspelled. The weirdest part about that was Bobby (I think) didn't give a good comeback. He just called them numbskulls.

Finally, one of the most funniest, but racist, things that Addie has ever said was, "Have you ever seen whats happening in the unfair metropolis of New York? You cannot be a black man and walk down the streets of that city without the word 'guilty' stamped on your forehead!!!

I really love this book. It is funny, interesting and awesome!

Pride and Prejudice Chapters

Throughout these chapters, Jane was invited to Mr. Bingley's mansion, and of course, she accepts. Jane was very excited to go there. She was sent by horse because it was going to rain, and what would be the point if she was going to stay overnight because it rained?! Wow, Jane is really clever because she would take an advantage on the rain and would be able to stay in the mansion the whole night.

Unfortunately, Jane was soaking wet when she got there and caught a cold. The plan went a little too well. The minute Elizabeth heard the news, she immediately ran over to the Mr. Bingley's mansion and came there with wet shoes. So Elizabeth had to stay overnight at the mansion too. They were both happy.

Unfortunately Mr.Bingley's sisters started bothering them and the Bennets were a little mad. On the bright side, Mr. Bingley tried to defend them, along with Mr. Darcy.

Wow, I can see that Mr. Bingley and Jane really love each other and Elizabeth stays away from it. I hope that they get married and probably be in love forever. I've also read that Mr. Darcy has "a thing" for Elizabeth. He tried dancing with her and Elizabeth admitted that she'll dance with Darcy. He is too proud of himself. I wouldn't have contact with a conceited person. I don't really like those types of people. Anyway, this book is really interesting. I've been having a bit problems understanding its text, but I still understand what is going on in the story.

Pride and Prejudice Chapters 1-4

The news of a wealthy man whose name is Charles Bingley, startled all the single women. He was young, rich and single. A mother of 5 beautiful children, wanted one of them to marry Bingley. Mrs. Bennet, the mother, pleads Mr. Bennet to introduce the young man to his daughters, he goes. He later doesn't say anything about him and the daughters explode with questions!

Mr. Bingler did not show up, he had to go to London. He showed up to a party, or a ball and danced with one of the Bennet's daughters, Jane. He thought that,by far, Jane was the prettiest (or handsomest) woman in the ball. He danced with her twice! Jane was really happy. She couldn't wait to tell everyone.

At the end of the Ball, everybody goes home. Mrs.Bennet discusses the events with Mr.Bennet and in the other room, Jane talks to Elizabeth what has happened. They are both excited.

I am really happy for Jane. She has found love and might be loved back. Also, it's with a rich guy! Not that it's all about money, but it is also important. I can see something strange with Elizabeth. I don't know what but I can sense it.

The Giver (Chapters 21-23)

The Giver does not allow Jonas to go outside for two weeks. He heard that Gabriel is going to be released because he was put into the nurturing center and cried a lot. Jonas did not want that to happen so he took some food and his father's bike and went to Gabriel. He was breaking some serious rules. If I were Jonas, I would've done the same thing. Gabriel joined our family and still will be. I would want to help him out and not be released. The whole family liked him. He steals Gabe from the center and runs away with him. They hide during the day from all the airplanes that might be searching for them. While they were walking, Jonas falls and twists his ankle. He doesn't know what to do. Suddenly, he saw wildlife-- beautiful wildlife. Animals and water and all of those stuff. He worries that Gabe and him might starve; so they go fishing! I think that would be fun. I like fishing because you can enjoy nature and catch fish, which gives you a lot of pride.

He has lost many memories that the giver has given him. He forgotten how the heat of the sun feels like. He tries to transmit most of his memories to Gabriel. It was getting worse and worse for them. It was cold and they were probably lost. Suddenly he sees houses full of light and love. He runs down there with Gabe and they are very happy. They hear music behind them.

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and somewhat similar to my life. I love it. I would also rate this book 4 stars.

The Giver (Chapters 17-18)

In these two chapters, Jonas stopped taking the pill for two weeks and his "pleasure able" dreams are back. He has been acting strange. When his friends got together to play a game of war, Jonas refused. He refused because he thinks its a mockery of real life war. I agree with him. It really is cruel. Everyday soldiers and men risk their life in order to save the children's lives, and they mock them. That really is cruel. Plus this came from the Giver when he gave him the painful knowledge.

The next day, Jonas asks the Giver for release but he says no. It gave him painful memories. Also this was against the rules-- asking for release because of the last Giver failed and quit. The quitter's name was Rosemary. She was eager and intelligent for being a giver. She couldn't wait to learn everything, but she received physical injuries, loss, poverty and depression from the memories. It was terrible, because the Giver cared for her as he cares for Jonas. One day, she just gave him a kiss on the cheek and left. She never came back. If I were her, I would've tried harder. I wouldn't the citizens to be disappointed at me. They would say, "Hey, there's the failure."

The Giver (Chapters 14-16)

In these two chapters, the Giver transmit energy into the sled for another ride and it looses control. It cause Jonas to experience pain and nausea. The Giver wouldn't allow him anything that would relief his pain. So he limped slowly to home. I think that it is really harsh. I think it's harsh because Jonas is hurt, and he cannot even tell his parents that! But it also teaches him discipline for receiving a very special role in his community or government. Giving him these memories and pain would give them wisdom, lets say if the town wants to make more newborns a year, the Giver would say no because that would cause hunger for the town.

On the other hand, Gabriel is starting to grow, but still cannot sleep through the whole night. Jonas's father thinks that Gabriel will be released and they will replace him with another newborn. Jonas wonders where the newborns will be "released." He thinks that someone else will come and take care of them, but I think the exact opposite of that. I think that they take the newborns, and kill them. They would kill it and replace it. Just like in the movie, "The Island." They make clones and replace body parts that would be weak and about to die, and these newborns that are going to be released, are the weak body parts of the town. (That's only what I think.)

The next morning, Jonas sees the Giver in pain, so he transmits the terrible knowledge to Jonas. He sees a war, and he is in the battlefield. Jonas, hurt, finds himself giving water to a wounded soldier. After that memory, he never wanted to go to the Annex to receive more painful memories. But he does. If I were him, I would be addicted to those too. It would give me more knowledge and I can't get enough of it.

In the next morning, Jonas sees that the Giver is in pain,

The Giver (Chapters 7-9)

It's time for the Ceremony of Twelve and Jonas lined up with all the other elevens. They are lined in order, the order of which who was born first to last. Jonas was 19. I couldn't believe. I thought he really was twelve! I thought he was twelve because, well in the previous chapter, he probably started reaching puberty, and puberty starts at somewhere that time.

When Jonas's turn comes, the Chief Elder skips over him and goes to twenty.What happened?! Why did the Elder skip over him. It humiliated him. Did Jonas do anything wrong? It was weird. I don't think he did anything. But the unfortunate twist turned into something good. The Elder told Jonas that he was being put into a very special position. It was the "Receiver of Memory" He was really happy. The current person that holds that position is an old man with a beard who has the same pale eyes as Jonas. In order to be a Receiver of Memory, you got to have integrity, courage and wisdom, Jonas thought he didn't have that. He changed his mind the minute he saw the people cheering for him, chanting his name. I felt really proud because it was really awesome. People cheering his name. I think that he will have a lot of tough work to do, but he would be able to handle it. Everbody now started to respect him, things will be quieter at his house.

The Giver (Chapters 5-6)

It was telling of the feelings and everybody shared what they dreamed. Jonas usually does not have a dream but this time he had a vivid dream. His dream was about Jonas being in the House of Old in a steamy bathroom and wanted to bathe his friend, Fiona. "It was a strong wanting." he says. Looks like Jonas is going through puberty. But the weird thing was that his parents gave him a pill from preventing those dreams. Why would they give it to him?!?! Even his parents said that it was perfectly normal. It was weird anyway. Is there a pill that prevents those dreams?

This community's rules are very abstract and strange. Like at every year, the child changes age, thats perfectly normal but they also get limited items at a very certain age. They give bikes to the children that turn nine-ONLY NINE. That is really strange. In here-real world- people can get bikes when they turn 4 or even 30!
On the other hand, I really enjoy this book.

The Giver (Chapters 3-4)

In chapters 3-4, Jonas's father brings in the newborn, Gabriel, into their homes. Lily started commenting Gabriel and she really liked him and was happy to have another family member. If I were in Lily's or Jonas's place, I would've been a little worried. I would've been a little worried because there is a new kid, my parents are gonna pay more attention to the newborn and they're not going to have any time for me. It was exactly the same when my sister was born.

Another thing that has surprised me was that Lily wants to be a birth mother. That means that she will give birth to newborns and the problem is that, she'll never see her biological children. That would be sad because you wouldn't see them nor be able to talk to them. If I were Lily I would never be a birth mother. I would be a nurturer rather than that.

In chapter four, Jonas and his friend, Asher started to volunteer different places. It had different variates and different jobs. I think that that is really a great idea. I would do that-if I had time. I would do the same thing as Jonas because it taught me different things and maybe do work that I probably thought I would never be able to do.

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson wasn't a very good movie but had a really cool, terrifying plot. This 20 minute "movie" was about a small village of 300 playing the lottery. It isn't the lottery we know today. This lottery is about whoever chooses a piece of paper with a black dot in the middle. Whoever chooses the piece of paper, they get stoned to death. The part that I didn't like from the movie was the camera work. It looks like a homemade movie. I thought this was cruel what they did to the people. Why would they do that to the poor old woman?

I really thought that the movie was creepier. I thought that the movie was creepier because when I read it, I didn't see such a cruel image. The book, or short story, gave me a bad image, but not like the movie. So I think that the movie was creepier.

I think that the village conducts the lottery because of the huge number of people that the village has. I don't think 300 people is too much. I saw the big, yellow sheet of paper that has their names in it. It is called population control. I really think it is cruel, especially beaten to death by rocks.
